Being the highest court, the supreme court is very powerful and has a lot of rights. Some say, that the supreme court has more power than the president, which is probably true. Although this may sound bizarre, the supreme court has a lot more duties and powers than the executive branch, or the president. The supreme court is almost like the last straw before something becomes established. For instance, if the government is trying to make a law, the supreme court are the last people that decide if it should be made a law or not. If the supreme court, says it shall become a law, it becomes a law, or the supreme court can rule the law unconstitutional. This process is called judicial review. This power is stated in Article 3, Section 2. It says that the Judical Power shall extend to all classes. This is a lot of power, because it rules over all other branches. This also has to do with the power to interpret laws, this is deciding whether a law is constitutional or unconstitutional based on the articles of confederation and the constitution. As Article VI, Section 2, states "This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land; and the Judges in every State shall be bound thereby, any Thing in the Constitution or Laws of any State to the Contrary notwithstanding." This states that everything that the Supreme Court decides shall be in place of what the constitution says, and they will follow federal law when a conflict arises.
